Spindle palms (Hyophorbe verschaffeltii) are slow growing plants. The plants are native to the Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean. Spindle palms are so named because of the ridges on the trunk that resemble a spindle and the shape, which is narrow at the base, widens and then constricts where fronds begin to grow. Spindles can be prone to a potassium (K) deficiency, so make sure you use a high potassium granular fertilizer.
